Kaloi Limenes or Kali Limenes (Greek: Καλοί Λιμένες [kaliˈ liménes]) is a village and port in the Heraklion regional unit, southern Crete, in Greece, located 82 kilometres (51 mi) south-west of the city of Heraklion. It has 21 inhabitants (2011).[1] It is known as a major bunkering spot for ships in the southern Mediterranean.
There are many magnificent beaches in Kaloi Limenes.
The organized beach of the area is in front of the settlement and it is a sandy and pebbly beach. There are taverns, mini markets and coffee houses beneath the beach. The largest beach in the area is in the east and its length is 1 kilometer. It is a pebbly beach and there are many tamarixes. The beach is on the road from Kaloi Limenes to the coastal settlement of Chrisostomos. The Karavovrisi beach is in the 2nd kilometer of the same road. The sandy beach can be accessed by a small path and it is not organized.
All the beaches are almost always calm, as the name of the village suggests, and that is why it is an ideal destination for the winter swimmers. The coastal settlements and beaches of Platia Peramata and Tzigkounas are on the road from Kaloi Limenes to Lentas.
Further west along the coast from Gortys is the tiny, tranquil, picturesque village of Kali Limenes. A tiny village with only around 100 inhabitants, it is the place where, legend states, the Apostle Paul disembarked via his way to Rome. Just a little way out to sea is the small islet of Trakos and also one of ancient Gortys' harbours, Lassea. In addition, it is possible to take a boat trip to the nearby monastery of Koudouma and Tsoutsouras. The small seaside village of Lenta is also close and can be reached by boat or road and, close to this is the ancient city of Levin, famous for its Asκlepeion.
The name Kali Limenes means good harbour and it is a natural port which serves fuel ships in the Mediterranean. There is a small island off the coast here with oil storage tanks. However, Kali Limenes is unspoilt with beautiful scenery, clear sea and a glorious, long, white beach.
It is not crowded and there is a nudist section to the beach.
